A pack of 10 LOTO Lock Out Tag Out Isolation Certificates with hazard sign reverse.
The isolation certificate works hand in hand with the LOTO register/tag as a way to double check equipment is safe prior to maintenance work being started and normal operation resumed. The HSE recommend that a series of additional safety checks are put in place at these stages to “reduce risk as low as reasonably practicable”.
The isolation certificate houses a series of simple step-by-step checks for the engineer to run through before and after completing their work, eg: is the equipment storing any residual energy which needs releasing or once work is completed, have the machine guards been put back in place? SG World has developed the certificate using best practice safe isolation principles from HSE HSG253 and customer feedback.

Lockout/tagout (LOTO) is a safety procedure used in industry and research settings to ensure that dangerous machines are properly shut off and not started up again unexpectedly while maintenance or servicing work is being performed. Here's why it's essential to use lockout/tagout procedures:
Prevent Accidental Start-up: Machinery and equipment can be extremely hazardous if they start up unexpectedly while someone is servicing or repairing them. Lockout/tagout ensures that the equipment cannot be energized or started inadvertently.
Protect Workers: LOTO procedures protect workers from the potential dangers associated with energized equipment, such as electrocution, burns, crushing injuries, or getting caught in moving parts.
Compliance with Regulations: Many countries have regulations and standards that mandate the use of lockout/tagout procedures in workplaces to protect worker safety. Compliance with these regulations is essential to avoid legal penalties and ensure a safe working environment.
Risk Reduction: Implementing LOTO procedures helps to reduce the risk of workplace accidents and injuries, which can lead to improved worker morale, reduced absenteeism, and lower healthcare costs for the employer.
Standardised Procedures: Lockout/tagout procedures provide standardised steps for isolating energy sources and ensuring that machinery and equipment are safely shut down and secured. This helps to prevent errors and confusion during maintenance activities.
Communication and Awareness: The use of lockout/tagout tags and devices helps to communicate the status of equipment to workers, indicating that it is undergoing maintenance or repair and should not be operated. This increases awareness and helps to prevent accidental start-ups.
Overall, lockout/tagout procedures are critical for safeguarding workers, preventing accidents, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations in industrial and research settings.
